Your generous donation helps us continue our mission of operating historic locomotives and railroad equipment in the mountains of Western Maryland.

In the past year, our primary engine, steam locomotive #1309, underwent running gear repairs that were intended to prolong the life of its 75-year-old pistons. The pistons were not part of the original restoration process. However, while it was operating in December, it was discovered that the piston heads and rods needed to be fully replaced to keep the 1309 running. Although this was already in the works, the timeframe has become sooner than expected. Please consider donating today to assist WMSR in funding new pistons so we can get the 1309 to steam down our tracks once again.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad operates a fleet of historic steam and diesel locomotives along with multiple passenger and freight cars. We rely on donations and volunteer hours to maintain these priceless pieces of equipment which run day in and day out on our line. Our recent acquisition and restoration of NYC Diner Car No. 456 is one of the main focuses of our fundraising efforts. Once restored, Diner 456 will become a featured car on our dinner train and winter brunch trains.
Educating the public on railroading is a major part of our mission. Your support helps us continue to provide community outreach in the Cumberland and Frostburg communities to ensure the spirit of Western Maryland continues.
The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad relies on the generosity of its supporters and donors to ensure the upkeep and restoration of our steam locomotives, 1309 and 734. Your donation helps ensure that these locomotives will be well taken care of for years to come. Locomotive 734 requires a full rebuild of its boiler and running gear to operate again.
