Fall “Photo Freight”

Fundraiser for 1309

We are making progress towards a full restoration on Western Maryland 1309. In the meanwhile, we are excited about all of the updates we’ve made to our diesel engine 501, as well as our passenger and freight fleet of cars. And for one weekend only, with all proceeds going towards getting steam back in mountain Maryland, we are offering a selection of photo events to help raise funding for 1309.

Limited Seating Available!

Must purchase all 4 events!

$315 Total Cost!

November 3-5

Friday Night (November 3)

Photo-document the Progress of 1309

Visit the Ridgeley Train Yard. See 1309’s progress up close and personal, and experience the soon-to-be only mainline compound articulated steam locomotive in operation.

Saturday (November 4)

Diesel Photography Freight Train

The famed “circus colors” will cover our Western Maryland 501. And, for the first time in our living history, we will utilize 501 as a series of repainted dedicated service freight cars on an all-day “Photo Freight” featuring over 20 photo stops! The day will be led by photographer Joe Goodrich, and includes a boxed lunch with various snacks provided throughout the day. Limit 20 people.

Saturday Night

Photo Freight meets Photo Passenger

An evening at the Cumberland Station where 501 will park with a full freight load. Then, the passenger train will approach the station for side-by-side photo opportunities.

Sunday Morning (November 5)

Firebox Breakfast, 1309 Q&A and Photo Tour

A personal question and answer opportunity with Diversified Rail Services & WMSR Staff. We will depart Cumberland and will enjoy breakfast and conversation on our way to Ridgeley. (Choice of Eggs, Bacon & Potatoes or Pancakes.) After our breakfast and discussion, we shall tour the 1309 Project.
