Your adventure begins at the historic Western Maryland Railway Station in the “Queen City” of Cumberland. Enjoy the sights, smells, and sounds of your journey behind one of our vintage steam or diesel engines from the comfort of one our restored coaches. You'll travel west from downtown Cumberland, through a natural cut in the mountains, around a horseshoe curve, over bridges, and through a tunnel. As you glide past scenic ridges, valleys, and small towns, you'll ascend 1,300 feet in elevation to the “Mountain City” of Frostburg. A narrator will be your guide to the views and history along the way!
Our daytime scenic excursion departs the Cumberland Station at 11:30am for a 3 1/2 hour round trip to Frostburg. During the 90-minute layover in Frostburg, watch our crew turn the engine on the turntable, visit the Thrasher Carriage Museum (free admission with train ticket!), and explore Frostburg's historic Main Street.

You will be seated in one of our restored coaches. Most seats are located by large windows and seat two on either side of the aisle. Seating in Standard Coach for individuals is not reserved; it is on a first come, first served basis.Handicapped seating is available in Standard Coach. Please note in your reservation, or call our offices, to alert us to your handicap needs. Aboard the train there is a small gift shop and snack car.
Reservations are recommended as trains can sell out. Please plan to arrive by 10:45 AM to pick up your tickets at the Ticket Office located on the second floor of the Station. If you have a guest who requires additional time boarding, please be ready to board approx. 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure and we will do our best to accommodate them before general boarding begins. Please adhere to boarding instructions given on when and where to board.
For our guests that enjoy biking, you may choose to take along your bike for a small fee and ride one way on the train and take advantage of the Allegheny Highland Bike Trail. Call for additional information and to place your reservations.
Premium Coach is also available every day. Guests have reserved seating in one of our more comfortable and spacious coaches. Similar to airline seating, these seats recline slightly and have foot rests. Seating is limited - reserve yours early! Handicapped seating is available in car #726.
Parlor is available most days. The leather lounge chairs here are the most comfortable seats on the train! A cash bar of beer and wine is available. Guests must be age 13 or older. Seating is limited - reserve yours early! Limited handicapped accessibility.
First Class is available on Saturdays (beginning in June) and additional days in October. Advanced reservation with a minimum of 5 days notice is required. Read More +
First Class passengers are seated at reserved tables in our restored dining cars or cafe car. Handicapped seating is available in Car #851 and #200. Guests confined to a wheelchair please call our offices to check on seat availability. Lunch is served aboard the train during the trip to Frostburg. Dessert and coffee are served during the return trip to Cumberland. Seating is limited and seat assignments will be based on the time reservations are made. Passengers will be given a choice of entrees at the time the reservation is made. All menu selections must be made at this time. Changes can be made to the menu selections until five days prior to departure time. Cancellations must be made at least five days prior to the departure date for full credit which can be used for up to one year. Cancellations within five days will be given credit for the cost of the ticket only which can be used for up to one year. Food costs cannot be credited due to commitments already in place.
For special occasions you can order a cake, cupcakes or flowers to be placed on your table with a 5 day notice. Ask for more information when placing your reservation.
